I made my way down to McDonald's field. I was asked by a member of the Miawpukek band to document the building of the birchbark canoe which was taking place in the Wikuom trails.
I met up with three men from my community who were splitting roots. This involved pulling roots up from underground, and splitting them up. This would be used for the frame of the birchbark canoe. You can see the split roots along the top, pulling the bark along the wooden frame.

Sylvester Joe, my buddy, as you can tell.

The roots tied outside the shelter which the canoe will be built in.
